have the construction end tak-
en care of, so between the two
of us, we’re taking on small to
large projects. We’ll be doing
a store makeover for a local
beauty parlor and then every-
day things like refurbishing an
old dresser or turning a bath-
room vanity into a nightstand.
We’ll take old things that might
have sentimental meaning
to someone and revive it for
modern use,” he said. The vid-
eos can be found at QualityAf-

Wallace, a lifelong Rocka-
way resident, has more than
30 years of experience working
on construction projects. “We
pretty much do anything in the
house from building a wall to
piping, painting. You name it
we can do it. We also do a lot of
small jobs like installing light
fixtures or blinds.” As he often
donates to local organizations
and churches, Wallace says the
DIYer column and now You-
Tube shows, are another way
to give back. “The community
has been good to us, so when-
ever we can, we do our bit to
give back,” he said.

Gateway Proposing
Riis Parking
Increases
SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT
Gateway National Rec-
reation Area is proposing
to increase camping and
parking fees, which locally
means that the parking fees
would rise at Riis Park in
the 2017 season. Gateway
is also providing a public
engagement period regard-
ing these increases, allow-
ing residents and visitors to
provide feedback.
The proposed 2017 fees for
Riis Beach are $15 per day,
$75 per season, $30 per over-
size car per day and $150
per oversize car per season.
(The fees are currently $10
per day, $65 per season, $20
per oversize car per day and
$135 per oversize car per
season). The park charg-
es per vehicle, not per per-
son. Visitors with Senior
or Access Passes would be
charged half price for park-
ing, as they are currently.
The hours of collection are 7
a.m. to 6 p.m.
According
to
Gate-
way Super intendent Jen
Nerses ian, the money re-
ceived f rom the increased
parking fees wi l l help im-
prove vi s i tor faci l i t ies and
ser vices.
Gateway’s public engage-
ment period on the pro-
posed fee increase runs
from Friday, July 29 through
Monday, September 5, 2016.
Feedback will be accepted
