In its seventh year running, the annual Two Bridges Music Festival is finally crossing the Cross Bay Bridge, coming to Rockaway for the first time this Saturday, July 28, and the festival’s sponsors couldn’t be more stoked. According to co-organizer, Mason Poretto, this year’s band lineup really reflects Rockaway’s best, and what better place to showcase the festival than at local music powerhouse, A/B Studios.
Broad Channel brothers, Mason and Frank Poretto, founded the Two Bridges Music Festival in 2011, purely for the love of music and their community. Mason Poretto said, “My brother and I own Broad Channel-based building and home general contractor company, Two Bridges Home Improvement, which keeps us extremely busy. However besides that, we are both avid musicians. My brother and I are somewhat local music veterans as we have played with rock bands, Sixth Borough, and The Poor House, and now are members of Phil and The Family Band. So when we came up with the idea for the Two Bridges Music Festival a year before Sandy, it took off, and we have been running it every year, with the exception of 2017.”
Poretto said the music festival has been hosted in various Broad Channel venues such as the Broad Channel Athletic Club and Grassy Point Bar and Grill, but they always kept their eyes on Rockaway, where they ultimately wanted to host the event.
“Because of issues with noise, parking and other obstacles, we could never find a venue in Rockaway. However this year, it’s finally happening at A/B Studios. We couldn’t be happier. And thankfully with the help of co-sponsors, Frisco Granada, Bryan Doremus, Rockawaves Radio, and of course, A/B Studios, we are finally bringing the Two Bridges Music Festival to Rockaway!” Poretto cheered.
From jazz to rock to punk, the Festival has quite the eclectic lineup featuring: The BEasy Band, Patsy, Dave Kellan Band, Ecstatic Madmen, Phil and the Family Band, Revels Engine, The Skates, Arson Welles, Blame Mercury, The Skells and Rattrap Bumpkin.
Also, there will be local artisan vendors joining in on the fun, while showcasing their unique items. Expect to see Ethereal Elements, WickCraft Candles by Sarah, Betsy’s Bungalow and Far Rock Shop.
When asked what he feels sets Two Bridges Music Festival apart from the other musical festivals, Poretto said, “Besides a fantastic lineup of bands, we always offer attendees the highest quality in sound and production of all the summer music festivals. A lot of festivals don’t put a lot of emphasis on their sound production, however for us, it’s a must. My brother, Frank, and I are also both sound technicians for the Rockaway Artists Alliance’s music studio, which we built and currently manage. Two Bridges is known for giving the best in music and sound.”
Poretto said their past festivals were much larger, some with even two rotating stages, however, though this year’s a bit smaller, he feels it’s going to be even more amazing. “Just to finally be in Rockaway is an awesome feat within itself, and the support we have received from locals all around tops it off. We don’t do this to make money. We do this solely out of our passion for music and community. We started planning this in April, and it’s a lot of work, but the true profit is in seeing the reception and overall fun everyone has.”
