Ariola On 100 Day Plan

In keeping with her 100 Day Plan, Councilwoman Joann Ariola met with several store owners along the Beach 129th Street business district. “It is important for me to have, in person, discussions with business owners along the peninsula,” Ariola said. “In meeting with the various store owners, I learned that they shared many concerns but also had issues that related to their specific business. Our small businesses are the economic engine that fuels the city’s economy. I will continue to be their voice in city government to help them rebound from the pandemic.”

As part of the plan in the early days of her tenure, Ariola also met with Dan Falt, Deputy Chief of Programs and Project Management Division of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).  “We discussed the on-going project to fortify our beaches with additional groins, an armored dune and sand re-nourishment.”

Prompted by calls from concerned constituents, Ariola discussed the monitoring of seismic activity due to rocks being dumped on to the beach to build the groins, alternatives to the current staging area at Beach 116th Street and the proposed ADA crossover ramps. Ariola will remain in contact with the USACE as the project continues along the Peninsula.
