On Memorial Day, a new tree at Memorial Circle, was dedicated to Lance Cpl. Michael Glover who died while serving with the US Marines in August, 2006. Glover, who was born in St. Francis de Sales parish, joined the service after 9/11. In a letter from Iraq, he wrote: “I took an oath — and it’s the best oath I ever took. I’m at peace if I come back with parts of me missing. And I’m at peace if I don’t come back at all.” Previously, Beach 134th Street in Belle Harbor was renamed in his honor.
