A Journey

 A Journey

One of my favorite poems, “The Journey”, is about transformation on so many levels. Whenever I read it in class, it feels powerful and healing. It’s about taking your heart into your hands and walking towards a new life. So often we are stunted by other people’s opinion on how and where we should live. The past few years have taught us all how fragile life can be and now is the time to live the life you have always dreamt of. We tend to postpone until the right time comes but I am a firm believer we have only today. My heart of hearts feels the power of the journey itself.

The Journey, “One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice—though the whole house began to tremble, and you felt the old tug at your ankles. Mend my life! But you didn’t stop. You knew what you had to do.” Awareness, allows you to see things more clearly. Taking a leap of faith always seems to land me in my body on this earth, knowing everything happens for a reason. I am a true believer we are alchemists of our own energy. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. As we become familiar with unlocking the mystery of intuitive energy, we follow our path. This life is a journey of many turns and some dead ends.  But we must never give up.

Intentions can be strong and clear, allowing them to manifest and flow freely. One has the power to change the direction or path in life simply by slowing down and listening to your inner source. It is easy to get wrapped up with the busy thoughts. Being a witness is the most natural state; the state of being. However, the habit of identifying with thoughts and consequently becoming something other than what we are is commonly what happens. And so, you begin the process of unpeeling the many layers that have been covering your heart and you begin to live the life you were meant to live. It’s never too late.

Last year when we were still in strict travel restrictions, I booked a trip to Greece, hoping I would be able to journey with my daughter on a once in a lifetime vacation. At the time, we did not know if we would be able to travel with all the guidelines that could prevent you from going overseas but more importantly, allow me back into my own country. We took a leap of faith, paid fully for our trip and here we are leaving for the trip of a lifetime! It’s been almost 40 years since I have been to Greece so I am curious how things will look now. Part of the trip will be spent on a yoga retreat and the last part in Santorini, an island I lived on for four weeks when I backpacked across Europe using my lifeguard savings to pay for my travels. Of course, youth hostels and pensions were popular back then and you could live on $10 a day! Now it’s Airbnb and $10 might get me a coffee and Danish.

If you ever find yourself empty from something you cannot know or name, find a stretch of ocean, a field, or mountainside, or even clouds, or trees. Because there are 1,000 simple ways to fill your tired soul so you can remember how to be, how to see, and most importantly, how to breathe.” – Victoria Erickson

If there is one important message in this column, it’s to live your life fully. Do not let anyone tell you, you can’t do what your heart desires because anything is possible. We have this one, crazy life to live. May you be safe, may you be healthy and may you always find joy.
