Floyd Bennett Field Injunction Case Moves to Federal Court
The Corporation Counsel for the City of New York has removed the Floyd Bennett Field injunction case to the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of New York, removing the scheduled October 3rd court date from the calendar.
According to a Joint Statement from NYC Councilwoman Joann Ariola and Assemblywoman Jamie Williams on October 2nd, Councilwoman Ariola, Assemblywoman Williams, and the other plaintiffs on the case intend to continue the fight at the federal level, bringing on attorneys specializing in natural resource law to bolster their argument.
“The Governor and the city are playing a shell game at the taxpayer’s expense,” said Councilwoman Joann Ariola. “They are shifting the case to the federal court, but thankfully we anticipated this move, and are ready to fight accordingly.”
“I am looking forward to our day in federal court,” said Assemblymember Jaime Williams. “Regardless of which venue they want this to unfold in, I am certain that once the facts are laid out in court, we will come out with a victory.”
“This is nothing but a delaying tactic, and at end of day the city and the Governor will have to face the music,” said lead plaintiff’s attorney on the case John Ciampoli.
