Rockaway Pitches In for Peninsula-Wide Cleanup

When everyone comes together to do a small part, it can make a big difference. That was exemplified last weekend as volunteers across the peninsula helped do their part to make Rockaway just a bit more beautiful during a community cleanup.

The peninsula-wide cleanup, spearheaded by Christine James, was a resounding success. Groups and individuals from the east end to the west end, beach to bay, stepped up and did what they could in various areas that were in need of some tender loving care. Bags and gloves were provided to volunteers and the Department of Sanitation helped clear the areas of all of the trash bags that piled up as trash was collected throughout the day.

Even elected officials helped pitch in, including Senator James Sanders, Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato and city council candidate Mike Scala. Senator Joe Addabbo and Councilman Eric Ulrich were also hard at work participating in a graffiti cleanup in another part of their district.

“I want to thank everyone for making this day great,” James said.
