She lived to be 108.
Frances Abbracciamento, a Breezy Point legend, died on Sunday, July 25.
Though born in 1913, Mrs. A, as she was lovingly called, was far more than just a number. She was a wife to the late Sal Abbracciamento, a matriarch—a mother to four children, grandmother to nine grandchildren and a great grandmother to more than fifteen great grandchildren. Together the couple owned and operated several well-known restaurants, including the famous Abbracciamento on the Pier on Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn. They were also very active in their community before moving to Breezy Point in 1966.
In May 2020, The Rockaway Times profiled Frances ahead of her 107th birthday, right after she had recovered from Covid-19. At the time, she said the secret to her longevity was her beloved family. “It’s because of the love of my kids, my family and the children who love me and I love back. I’m so blessed for everything God had given to me and I’m so thankful. I’ve had a wonderful life and I have no regrets of anything,” she said.
A wake will be held for Frances on Thursday, July 29 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at O’Connor Funeral Home in Rockaway Beach. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More in Breezy Point on Friday, July 30 at 11 a.m.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
