5th Grade SFDS Champions!

The CYO soccer season reached its conclusion this weekend, with both fifth grade SFDS teams being crowned Diocesan Champions! Congratulations to the fifth-grade boys and the fifth-grade girls on their Championships!

St. Francis de Sales fifth-grade boys’ soccer team had a busy weekend, winning the Queens South Division title on Friday night against an excellent St. Camillus-St.

Virgilus team by a score of 4-0 and then capturing their first ever Diocesan Championship on Sunday, beating St. Francis of Assisi 3-0. Some familiar faces controlled both these games with goaltender James Moriarty collecting his second straight shutout and striker Giorgio Mazzaferro netting his second straight hat trick. The

team finished the season with eight wins and only one loss.

Congratulations to all of the SFDS players, coaches, and teams, for successful seasons. Five other SFDS teams came within a play, or two, in the semifinals and finals, of achieving the ultimate goal.  hank you to all of the parents for coming out and supporting the children, throughout the season.

A special thanks to the eighth-grade coaches, who send their players off towards continued success in high school. Josette Grippo, Matt Belford, Jay Butler, Eric Jahrnes, Betsy Kuhlmann and Bella Harkins have given so much time and energy to our children and represented all that is good with CYO soccer- Thank you!
