at the Beach
On Saturday, September 14, head to the Beach 94th Amphitheater for Team Challenge at the Beach’s 5-mile race in support of Prostate Cancer Research at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Pre-race check in is at 8:30 a.m. The race begins at 10 a.m. Register at: www.teamchallengeatthebeach.com
Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th
On Saturday, September 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th and the Rockaway Freeway to shop from local vendors. Brass By the Slice will be the musical performer.
Hawk Watch
On Saturday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m., head to Battery Harris in Fort Tilden to join a park ranger for the chance to see birds of prey like osprey, peregrine falcons, and bald eagles as they fly overhead during the peak fall migration. Learn to ID them by silhouette and at rest. This will take place at the overlook above Battery Harris at Fort Tilden. Cancelled if raining.
Dog Parade
On Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m., head to the Beach 108th hockey rink and dress your dog in their outer space or cosmic best for a parade down the boardwalk to Beach 94th Street. $5 to enter. Prizes for the best dressed.
NYC Honey Festival
On Saturday, September 14 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., head to Beach 106th and the boardwalk for NYC Honey Festival! There will be beekeepers, honey vendors and more!
The Journey of an Aviation Pioneer
On Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m., head to Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field to join Ranger Flor for an in depth look at aviation pioneers and the obstacles they overcame in order to make history. Pilots like Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post and others faced a lot of scrutiny in their quest to earn their “wings.” Discover the lasting legacy of these aviation heroes.
Riis Landing Kayaking
On Saturday, September 14 at 1 p.m., head to Riis Landing near the Marine Parkway Bridge for kayaking for beginners. Open to ages 6 and up with an adult. No reservation required. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles and instruction provided.
Beachcombing
with a Ranger
On Sunday, September 15 at 10 a.m., meet at the flagpole at Bay 9 on the Riis Park boardwalk to take a walk on the beach with a ranger and see what the shore has to offer!
Cardio Punch
On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Beach 60th and the boardwalk to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.
Birding for Beginners
On Sundays through Sept. 29, at 1:30 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to learn about birding. You’ll take a nature walk, talk about what makes Jamaica Bay such a great place for birds, and learn the basics of bird identification and appreciation. Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended, binoculars available.
Yoga with Soupy
On Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 a.m., head to Beach 102nd Street for a yoga class led by Soupy Campbell.
Floyd Bennett Field Kayaking
On Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 a.m., head to the Floyd Bennett Field Seaplane Ramp in Brooklyn for kayaking for beginners. Open to ages 6 and up with an adult.
