Transportation Committee Meeting

On Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m., head to the Rockaway YMCA (207 Beach 73rd St.) for a CB14 Transportation Committee meeting to discuss the redesign of Beach 73rd Street and Rockaway Beach Blvd. and speed bumps for Fernside Pl. and Plainview Ave.

 

Mother’s Day Run

On Saturday, May 10 at 8 a.m., Rockaway Track Club is hosting a half marathon, 5K and one mile walk for Mother’s Day. Head to the Beach 94th Amphitheater for bib pick up and day of registration. The runs and walk begin at 9 a.m. To pre-register, head to Rockawaytc.org

 

Big Day Walk

On Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for Global Big Day for birding. Explore the refuge in search of as many species of birds as possible, while contributing to a better understanding of bird populations worldwide. Bug spray and sunscreen recommended, binoculars available.

 

Community Dune Planting

On Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 62nd & the boardwalk to join RISE for its community planting as part of the of “Greater Rockaway” Coastal Resilience Plan. Community service hours available for students. Registration is encouraged at riserockaway.org.

 

Jamaica Bay Park Pals

On Saturday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for Park Pals, a program designed to engage families with young children (ages 0-6 years old) in safe nature exploration. Enjoy May flowers themed sensory activities, a read-aloud, and a flower exploration walk in the refuge led by a Park Ranger. Pre-registration required via jbrpc.org/parkpals

 

Denim Day

On Saturday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to St. Rose of Lima (130 Beach 84th Street) for a day of events for Missing Children’s Day and Denim Day. Learn about resources, hear stories, partake in self-defense and Zumba classes, arts and crafts, giveaways and more.

 

Sustainability Fair

On Saturday, May 10 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to Beach 21st Street Plaza for a sustainability fair featuring resources, music, food and more.

 

Mother’s Day Foraging Tour

On Sunday, May 11 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to join for a special Mother’s Day foraging tour with America’s go-to guy, “Wildman” Steve Brill, to explore Arverne East Nature Preserve, which has an abundance of wild plants and wildlife. Free but registration is required at riserockaway.org.

 

Aviation Pioneers

On Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m., head to Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field to join a park ranger for an in depth look at aviation pioneers and the obstacles they overcame to make history. Pilots like Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post and others faced a lot of scrutiny in their quest to earn their “wings.” Discover their lasting legacy.

 

Kripalu Ayurveda-Inspired Yoga

Workout with Christina Cruz

On Tuesday, May 13 at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to join Christina Cruz in a free full-body workout. Cardio, strengthening, stretching, and yoga. All are welcome. Support provided by FRANC and Fund for the City of New York.
