You Need A Guardrail
Dear Editor:
Monday, June 24 sadly marked one year since Ava Conklin was struck and killed by a car that jumped the curb near Beach 108th Street.
Since then, the metal benches, and even the tree the driver plowed through, and ripped concrete, have all been replaced. And a memorial to this young woman has been placed and even now is lovingly tended.
What might be a more solid remembrance would be to put a guardrail, a barrier, along the curb that the driver jumped. Even now, this already low curb is barely visible from the busy street it juts right out into. There is not even a temporary barricade or even a coat of bright yellow paint to indicate it’s there.
A fitting tribute would be to make sure this never happens again.
Put a guardrail there!
