The Definition of Insanity
By Sarah McVeigh
Hello, my dear readers. Did you miss me? I wish I had a good excuse for my absence, but I have to be honest with you … I truly had nothing to write about. I am so bored with sports right now. That’s how I am feeling: bored and frustrated. There’s nothing fun or new going on with sports, not even good drama or a new “it” couple. I just feel very blah lately.
Here’s the issue: I am sick and tired of the consistency of problems that exist on the same teams, and I cannot understand it. Let’s take the Jets, for instance. Their issue is always the same: they can never deliver on offense. For years, the NY Jets have gotten a great draft pick, which shows how bad their season was, and the fans all say, “This is our year.” Specifically, the Jets always seem to need a quarterback. Since I have been forced to watch the Jets, I have seen this trend with Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and now Justin Fields. I just don’t understand how a team can complain about how their quarterback sucks when they’ve had so many different chances and nothing helps. And why is it that Sam Darnold is crushing it with the Seahawks now?
Let’s talk about my Arizona State University (ASU) Sun Devils. My mom is an alumna, so unfortunately, I’ve had to watch this team since birth. One thing remains the same since 1993: we have no defense. This has been a consistent issue! I don’t understand how the same problem can still exist after decades!
If teams have a new head coach and completely clean house, why do they still have the same problems? Someone please explain it to me because clearly, there is something I am missing! Are teams not recruiting the players they actually need? Are they not hiring the appropriate coaching staff? What is it?!
Anyway, this is why I couldn’t get anything to press the past few weeks — because I am so bored with the same issues, the consistent problems. It makes me lose interest.
I say all of this as we are gearing up for rivalry week in college football. This is probably the most entertaining, exciting, unpredictable weekend in college sports. Put away your betting apps because you never know what is going to happen. Watching the games as a third-party observer with absolutely no personal interest in the matter (guess the movie) is fun because there are no stakes. But, as a fan, it is stressful. I myself am traveling for the occasion, and I guess the holiday too. Please pray that my Sun Devils beat the s*** out of the U of A Wildcats — otherwise, you guys have another sad article coming your way.
Here’s to one week when things will be unpredictable.
Go DEVILS!
