Rolling Into Spring at Floyd Bennett Field
Sunny weather and a cool breeze on Sunday, March 29, made for excellent bike riding weather along Floyd Bennett Field’s historic runways. Scores of athletes turned out for an adaptive cycling event produced by Achilles International and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, with support from the National Park Service at Gateway National Recreation Area.
This twice-yearly event series offers people living with disabilities the chance to enjoy a ride on a tandem bike or handcycle in a welcoming, supportive environment. On Sunday, several athletes joined from ADAPT Community Network, a not-for-profit organization that provides people living with disabilities programs and services.

In addition to enjoying wide open spaces and fresh air, attendees got to experience the substantial aircraft collection at Hangar B, meticulously maintained by Historic Aircraft Restoration Project (HARP).
A pizza lunch was provided by local Assemblywoman Jaime Williams, a long-time supporter of public events at Floyd Bennett Field and elsewhere around Jamaica Bay.
