Rough Ramp
Dear Editor:
I am writing to formally request a thorough cleaning and ongoing maintenance of the NYC/Nassau highway ramp entering Rockaway on the NYC side.
As a regular commuter on this route for over six years, I have observed a stark contrast in maintenance standards at the border: while the Nassau County Department of Transportation consistently keeps their section clean, the NYC side remains neglected. The ramp is currently littered with debris, trash, and bottles of urine, creating an unsightly and unsanitary environment.
This location serves as a primary gateway to Rockaway. It is disheartening that for the duration of my son’s entire high school career in Long Island—from his first day to his recent graduation—this entrance to our community has remained in this condition.
We would greatly appreciate it if the Department of Sanitation or the DOT could prioritize a cleanup of this area as soon as possible to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
