Draw Night for Adults

On Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a drawing class for adults. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own.

 

Stargazing at FBF

On Friday, May 29 at 8 p.m., head to the community garden at Floyd Bennett Field to join the Amateur Astronomers Association to view the night sky. Cancelled if raining or overcast.

 

FBF Shoreline Cleanup

On Saturday, May 30 at 9 a.m., head to the North 40 Kayak Launch in Floyd Bennett Field to join JBRPC for a shoreline cleanup. Help remove large debris, trash, and floating materials. Gloves, bags, and tools will be provided. For info and to sign a waiver, head to www.jbrpc.org/events

 

Black Birders Week Celebration

On Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Arverne East Nature Preserve at Beach 56th Place to join NYC Plover Project for a bird watching tour. Then meet at The Garden by the Bay on Beach 43rd Street for lunch, nature-based activities, raffles and giveaway. Free, open to the public, perfect for families. Shore Corps Year End Celebration

On Saturday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to reflect on the accomplishments of the Shore Corps students and watch the presentation of three scholarship awards in honor of Rockaway champions Barbara Eisenstadt, Barbara Hillary, and Carol Lamberg. Light refreshments. Learn to Fish Clinic

On Saturday, May 30 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to the Beach 108th ferry landing to join JBRPC and NYSDEC for a learn to fish program. Instruction, equipment, and bait provided.

 

Kite Festival

On Saturday, May 30 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to Beach 94th Street to enjoy Flying High, a one-day kite festival. Enjoy kite flying on the beach from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., a kite exhibition and kite making from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., flying your creations at 6 p.m., live music by Tini Vessel at the Amphitheater at 7 p.m. and a screening of Mary Poppins at 8:30 p.m.

 

Disco Divas

On Saturday, May 30 at 2 p.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free performance by vocalist Mitch Matlock. Enjoy an afternoon of ‘70s disco hits.

 

Beach 116th Summer Kickoff

On Sunday, May 31 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., head to Beach 116th Street to enjoy a summer kickoff festival with vendors, food, music and fun!

 

A Taste of Natural Healing

On Monday, June 1 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Alexandra G. Taggart, certified instructor of Dragon’s Way Qigong, leads a FREE thirty-minute class. The Four Energy Gates is a practice to awaken the body’s energy flow. Think almost like an acupuncture treatment, but you are the practitioner!

 

Zumba!

On Monday, June 1 at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free Zumba class led by LaDeidre Smith from Rockaway YMCA. Enjoy an aerobic fitness workout that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance.

 

Body Weight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 7 p.m., head to the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Ave.) for a free body weight circuit training class with Edith. Ongoing through September.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head the Beach 60th boardwalk to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch to the rhythms of motivating music. Through September.
