 Ava’s Memorial Vandalized Again

On Saturday, February 22, the late Ava Conklin’s father, Matthew Conklin, found his daughter’s memorial at the corner of Beach 108th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard once again vandalized. A custom wooden structure that holds candles, statues and other tributes, was broken. “It looks like someone stomped on it,” Conklin said on Saturday.

This comes almost exactly a year after someone vandalized the same part of the memorial, overturning it and dumping all the candles. That suspect was caught on camera and was later arrested. “Why are people animals?” Conklin said in response to the latest incident.

After discovering the broken memorial on Saturday, Conklin took it home and repaired it, making it good as new, and brought it back to Ava’s corner on Monday, February 24.
