BCVFD Celebrates 2025 Officers & Honorees
On Saturday, February 22, the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department had a great evening celebrating their 120th year of service at their annual dinner dance at the America Legion.
Throughout the evening, the 2025 Chiefs and Officers were installed, and several awards were given out. This year’s Corporation Officers include President Dan McIntyre, Vice President Roxanne Seunarine, Treasurer Donna Bassetti, Financial Secretary Ed Wilmarth Jr., Recording Secretary Katie McIntyre and Sergeant at Arms Joe O’Hare Jr. This year’s Fire/EMS Chiefs and Officers are Supervising Dispatcher Chris Kalisak, EMS Captain Joseph O’Hare Jr., Engine Co. Captain James McCabe, Chief Engineer Ed Wilmarth Jr., Deputy Chief of Safety Andrew Knee, Assistant Chief Michael Delgado and Chief of Department George Conklin.
Awards were given to Firefighters Kyle Khan, Emilie Rashcovan and Sean Aviles for completing their probationary periods. FF/EMT Michael Marzullo was given a Distinguished Duty award for rendering medical aid to an unconscious female while off duty on his way home from the firehouse. FF/EMT Leonard Cannella who for the 2nd time in his career was awarded the 2024 Lt. Kenneth Greenholtz Sr. Memorial EMT of the Year award presented by Lt. Greenholtz’s great grandson, Eddie Wilmarth IV.
FF Katie McIntyre was awarded the 2024 Chief Robert H. Russell Sr. Memorial Firefighter of the Year award. McIntyre is only the fourth female in the history of the BCVFD to win the award. All of the previous female recipients were from McIntyre’s close or extended family.
The BCVFD’s special honorees this year were “Happy Hour,” a group of friends and residents, some of which are former members of the department, who volunteer their time every year to help support and fundraise for many Broad Channel volunteer organizations. Each was presented a certificate of appreciation from not only the BCVFD but from State Senator Joe Addabbo as well as City Councilwoman Joann Ariola.
