Clattermouuuth’s Music of The Week: ‘Fleeting’ by Unflirt
By Andrew Kohler
Welcome back to Clattermouuuth’s Music of the Week, curating Rockaway’s music taste one week at a time. Today, I wanted to talk about an EP I’ve been highly anticipating: “Fleeting” by Unflirt.
Unflirt is an up-and-coming indie, bedroom pop artist who my friend actually introduced me to recently through the first single for this EP, “Sea Song.” The dreamy, nostalgic production and the serene yet yearning lyrics in this song hooked me. From that moment, I’ve been excited to see if this new EP could have the same emotional weight that this song did, and it does. Through catchy yet relatable lyrics, “Fleeting” is a poetic EP about the insecurities and awareness that come from attachment.
Songs like “Something Familiar” and “Sweet Sweet Time” cover the feeling of getting lost in mutual attachment — as if nothing else exists. Meanwhile, “Sea Song” acts as the counter to these songs. She’s questioning her partner’s attachment with lines like “In the deep blue who do you see? Who do you think of?” While questioning her own self-meaning and purpose: “What is there to do without my love?” These vulnerable lines make Unflirt seem as if she’s nothing without the one who she loves.
“Fleeting” did live up to the hype that I gave it. Other than the finale song, in which the vocals were not mixed very well, this album successfully captures the ups and downs of love. I’m giving this EP an 85/100 for its emotional weight, dreamy production and relatability.
