Nearly two years into serving as Superintendent of District 27’s schools, David Norment was recently honored at the Middle School Principals’ Association on March 2, 2024.

Norment was among one other superintendent from District 21 and five principals, one from each of the five boroughs, honored at the event held at the Brooklyn Marriott on Saturday, March 2. Norment has led Rockaway’s District 27 schools as superintendent since 2022.

Norment was humble about receiving the honor. When it comes to leadership, he believes, “True leadership is not measured by titles or accolades but by the impact that we make in the lives we touch.”

However, he expressed gratitude for the recognition, and gave credit to the team around him. Norment is extremely grateful for the unwavering support of his family, the District 27 Team, the administrators, teachers, students and families for support in his tenure as Superintendent. Norment also credits Chancellor Banks for being a visionary and establishing the content for making the teaching of reading a major focus for the New York City for Public Schools.

Upon accepting the award, Norment said, “In accepting this award, I also recognize that it comes with a solemn responsibility to continue the work of leadership with integrity, empathy, and a relentless commitment to equity and justice. Our communities in D27 deserve nothing less and I pledge to uphold the trust and confidence placed in me with unwavering dedication and resolve.”

Norment is looking forward to continuing to work with those around him to make District 27 schools a success for all. “Together, we truly have the power to transform lives, uplift communities, and create a brighter future for generations to come,” he said in his award speech.

Congratulations superintendent Norment!
