Four Die in Boat Accident off of Breezy Point

On Sunday morning, February 23, six men set out of the marina in Howard Beach on their new 30-foot Grady White vessel called, “Triumph,” taking advantage of the warmer weather for a fishing trip. However, most didn’t make it home after the vessel capsized in Ambrose Channel, just a few miles between Breezy Point and Staten Island.
At 12:04 p.m., NYPD and the Coast Guard responded to 911 calls about the vessel taking on water. A massive rescue operation began as the boat overturned and the men battled hypothermia in the 38-degree water. Unfortunately, only five of the six men were recovered. Three men did not make it out alive including Cecilio “Javier” Adames of Corona, Francis Marmolos and another man. Vernon Glasford of the Bronx, who has been missing since Sunday, is also presumed dead, as the Coast Guard continues to search for his body.
Sewchand Maniram was one of two survivors who were rescued. He is now recovering home in South Richmond Hill and Enrique Diaz, the other rescued survivor, remains in stable condition in the hospital.
