Happy 100th, Angie!
This time last year, we profiled the legendary Angelina “Angie” Intrabartola Corrigan, as the oldest person to be born on the peninsula, who never moved, and still lives here today. Angelina Intrabartola was born at Rockaway Beach Hospital on November 15, 1924 to Italian immigrant parents, and other than travels, she never moved out of Rockaway. When she married her late husband, Raymond, Angie’s father told her she had to stay in Rockaway, but that was an easy decision for her. “I love Rockaway. I was born here, and I loved it. I loved it in the summer and the winter, so there was no other place that I’d rather be,” she said. “There’s no better place than Rockaway to raise your children.” Angie and Raymond went on to have four children, nine grandchildren, and Angie now has at least seven great-grandchildren.
At the time of the story, Angie was 99, and she told The Rockaway Times, “I made a promise to my kids on my 98th birthday that I’m gonna live to be 100,” adding that she wanted a big party for that one.
On Friday, November 15 of this year, Angie fulfilled that promise, turning 100 years old and on Saturday, November 16, her extended family celebrated their matriarch with a big birthday bash at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club. Happy 100th Birthday, Angie!
