Head over to Rockaway’s main thoroughfare for the 2nd annual Beach 116th Street Fall Fest on Sunday, September 29, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be street vendors, food trucks, live music, as well as more games and fun things for the kids.

This weekend, on Saturday, September 28, St. Francis de Sales Parish is having their Fall Fest in the schoolyard at Beach 129th Street. From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be Family Festival, with rides, games, vendors, crafts, a pumpkin patch, fall flower sale and raffles. It is free to enter, and kids’ wristbands will be sold for $25 for unlimited games and rides. Then, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., it will be Oktoberfest, with the Russo Brothers Band, beer, wine, German food, DJ, dancers and raffles. Last Friday, Rockaway’s NYC Parks Administrator Eric Peterson was appointed as Administrator of Marine Park. This means that Rockaway will be getting a new NYC Parks Administrator — no replacements have been announced at this time. We wish Eric well in his new endeavor in Brooklyn.

We were sad to hear that Coastal Frozen Yogurt was closing its doors not just for the end of the summer, but indefinitely. They announced on social media late last week that they were selling their inventory, and that last weekend would be their last hurrah. We will certainly miss their sweet treats!

Hasbro announced that it’s rolling out a new “Queens Edition” of Monopoly, which will feature landmarks of the borough instead of the classic game’s spaces. They haven’t announced which landmarks will be featured, but we’re betting, like many others, that our Rockaway Beach will make the cut.

The Catch a Cure 5K Walk/Run will take place on Sunday, October 6 at Beach 116th Street boardwalk. You can register at www.rockawaytc.org or in person on Thursday, October 3, at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This weekend is your chance to see “THE BLOCK” for free. Local resident and filmmaker Robert Sarnoff recently let us know that his film featuring his neighbors on Beach 138th Street, will be screened as part of the Rockaway Film Festival’s Local Filmmakers’ Showcase on Sunday, September 29, at 7 p.m. at the Annex Cinema located at 415 Beach 72nd Street. RISE has been chosen to participate in a special charitable giving campaign sponsored and funded by Target. Now through September 30, vote for Rockaway Waterfront Alliance through the Target Circle program to help direct a portion of its donation to the local organization.

In lieu of the Rockaway Beach Civic Association’s (RBCA) October meeting, the RBCA will be hosting a volunteer planting project to support the Daffodil Project. The date, time and place have yet to be announced. RBCA invites you to come beautify the community!
