It’s finally here! Poseidon’s Prom will be held this Saturday, February 1, at Connolly’s. $20 to enter at the door. Fundraising from the event will help benefit Poseidon’s Parade in September. Don’t miss the crowning of this year’s king and queen!

The next meeting of the Rockaway Beach Civic Association will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room of the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street). Guest speakers will include the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), Queens Deputy Borough Commissioner Jason Banrey, and Queens Borough Planner Emanuel Evans.

Want a furry friend to keep you company and warm? On Saturday, February 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato, along with Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue, will be hosting a cat adoption event in her Rockaway office located at 95-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd. They will have cats and kittens in the office for you to meet! No appointments are necessary. Stop by to meet your new furry friend or drop off donations of dry/wet food and kitty litter. Her Rockaway office is also accepting any donations before then, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Good news for lifeguards. The controversial chief of the New York City lifeguard supervisors’ union for more than 40 years, Peter Stein, quietly retired this month. Conveniently, Stein faces a virtual hearing today, Thursday, January 30, on charges that he failed to follow union bylaws and kept lifeguards from participating in union activities. While Stein is gone, if the allegations are upheld, some of his other union appointees could go with him. Perhaps this means positive change is afoot for the lifeguard union.

Our friends at RISE are looking to hire Dune Squad Crew Members to work on “Greater Rockaway” Coastal Resilience Plan. Positions begin at 15 to 20 hours a week, $22 per hour. To apply, send a cover letter and resume to Juvie Anne Alfeche (jalfeche@riserockaway.org) and copy Alana Danieu (adanieu@riserockaway.org), with “Dune Squad Crew Member” in the subject by February 14. Work begins the week of March 16 and continues through November 14.

On Wednesday afternoon, the MTA board approved the final Queens Bus Network Redesign plan. Changes will start to roll out this summer. The Q35, Q22 and Q52 will all see changes and bus riders could see fewer stops across the board in an effort to speed up service.
