We couldn’t have asked for better weather for last week’s parade! As always, Rockaway showed up in full force, enjoying the day. Kudos to the grand marshals and all who marched in the parade this past Saturday. The Rockaway Times extends our gratitude to everyone who helped make the 50th Annual Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade another smashing success. A great time was had by all!

As we all know, Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day marks the unofficial start of spring, but it really starts to feel like the season is changing after daylight saving time. We may lose an hour of sleep this weekend when the clocks move forward, but the extra hour of evening sunlight is well worth it! The time change happens this Saturday night (technically Sunday morning) at 2 a.m. — so don’t forget to set your clocks ahead.

Many locals have been wondering about the recent closure of Claudette’s in Arverne. Sadly, we’ve learned that Claudette’s Arverne location has officially closed. However, their Howard Beach location remains open, serving their signature dishes. And for those in Rockaway, you can still find Claudette herself at Claudette’s Café inside The Rockaway Hotel.

HBO’s iconic anthology “True Detective” has announced that production of season 5 is underway. The hit show, which always seems to attract some heavy hitting actors, has previously been set in places such as the swamps of Louisiana and the tundra of Alaska. This time around, however, showrunner Issa Lopez had something else in mind. The newest season of “True Detective” is set to take place in and around Jamacia Bay, New York. Not much additional information has been released about the upcoming season and they do not seem to be in any rush with a release date currently set for 2027.
