Saturday, September 27, Rockaway will close out the summer in nautical style with the 11th annual Poseidon Parade. The fun kicks off at 1 p.m., starting at Beach 106th Street and marching down to the Amphitheater. This Rockaway tradition is always a highlight, with costumes and floats that never disappoint. This year, our own Katie McFadden will serve as one of the judges. Registration is still open at poseidensparade.com, where you can also find more details about the day’s festivities.

A final seasonal reminder: uptown summer parking rules remain in effect through next Tuesday, September 30.

And since the seasons are shifting, here’s a timely note: Wednesday marks the start of October (October already!), which makes it a good time to check your emergency supplies—flashlights, batteries, and go-kits. The anniversary of Sandy is just a few weeks away.

The Rockaway Track Club is hosting a half marathon and 5K this Saturday, September 27, at the Amphitheater on Beach 94th Street. Bib tag pick-up, T-shirt distribution, and check-in begin at 6:30 a.m., with both races starting at 8 a.m. For more information or to sign up, visit www.rockawaytc.org

The Rockaway Beach Civic Association (RBCA) has rescheduled its next meeting to Thursday, October 9, from the previously announced date of October 2. RBCA will welcome guest speaker Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz on October 9. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room of the Knights of Columbus, 333 Beach 90th Street.

On Sunday, September 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Jamaica Bay–Rockaway Parks Conservancy and Garden by the Bay will present the Pollinator Festival at Garden by the Bay, 480 Beach 43rd Street. This free, family-friendly event will celebrate the vital role of pollinators with hands-on activities, crafts, nature games, garden explorations, and a live butterfly release for all ages.

Looking ahead, the Beach 116th Street Fall Fest is set for next Sunday, October 5, from noon to 6 p.m. The day will feature live music, food, and vendors, along with a kids’ festival—rides, games, and a pumpkin patch—from noon to 3 p.m.

Since 2017, Catch a Cure has raised critical funds for individuals and families on the peninsula facing cancer. This year’s honorees include, from Rockaway: In memory of Richie O’Connor and in honor of Marianne “Skippy” Doyle Leonard. From Breezy/Roxbury: In memory of Patricia Redmond and in honor of June Morgan. From Broad Channel: In memory of Billy Gill and in honor of Liz Boyle. The “Catch a Cure” 5K family walk/run will take place Sunday, October 5, at 9 a.m. on the boardwalk at Beach 116th Street. Come out to run or walk in support of this great cause! You can register online at rockawaytc.org or in person at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club on Thursday, October 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
