Where is everyone? With schools off this week for February break, it seems half the peninsula is away – either taking advantage of the recent snow and getting some ski time in or headed south to get away from the cold and getting some needed sun time.

Speaking of the cold and snow, it was a surprise last Saturday to wake up to a lot of snow. After having a “snow day” last Tuesday, it seemed that storm came out of nowhere.

Get your green ready! The Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day parade is just over a week away on next Saturday, March 2. It is always a great day in Rockaway and a sign that spring is almost here.

St. Francis de Sales Church is once again hosting Emmet Cahill, the world acclaimed Irish tenor, live in concert on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. All tickets are $60 and includes a meet and greet with Emmet and post reception with light fare. Tickets available online at EmmetCahill.com or at the St. Francis rectory and after masses in February.

REMINDER — If you are planning to travel this weekend, Friday, February 23, through Saturday, February 24, note that the Marine Parkway Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. Friday, February 23, through approximately 7 p.m. Saturday, February 24. Customers are encouraged to use the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge as an alternate route. Service on the Q35 bus will also be affected during this period and will be re-routed via the Cross Bay Bridge. Remember to plan accordingly.

Councilwoman Joann Ariola is hosting a 2024-2025 Property Tax Information Session in person at her Ozone Park office, 93-06 101st Ave. on Tuesday, February 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Representatives from the NYC Department of Finance will be available to help you save money through applying for property tax exemptions. You may already qualify and not know it. Deadline to apply for exemption is March 15.  Call Jessica at 718-738-1083 to reserve your spot.

If you are looking for free things to do with your children, the Peninsula Library at 92-25 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, has many opportunities. They have Storytime for ages 3-6 every Wednesday at 3 p.m., Storytime for ages 0-3 every Friday at 11 a.m., Yoga Storytime for ages 4-12 every Wednesday at 4 p.m., Musical Mother Goose Storytime for babies to toddlers every Monday at 11 a.m., and Crochet for Kids ages 7-12 on Fridays at 4 p.m.
