Kudos to the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Park Conservancy for hosting a great event all weekend with the Floyd Bennett Field! Public Arts Festival. This festival had something for everyone from incredible artwork to a massive makers market to exploring the history of Floyd Bennett Field. Congrats on a job well done!

Our 2024 Photo Contest is officially closed for entries. We received so many fabulous entries. Thanks everyone for your participation. Our judges now have the extremely difficult job of narrowing down the hundreds and hundreds of entries we received to a Top 30. We will be revealing the Top 30 in next week’s paper. Like other years, the Top 30 will be blown up and displayed on the boardwalk starting Memorial Day weekend for all to admire. There will also be 5 Honorable Mentions, which will also be blown up and displayed at the ferry landing on Beach 108th Street.

Happy 15th Anniversary to our friends at Red Hook Lobster Pound. Congratulations! Red Hook is having its anniversary party this Sunday, April 28 at its location at the 97th Street concessions on the boardwalk. They will be serving $15 Maine Lobster Rolls and having live music, the Rainbow Spirals, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Can’t think of a better way to spend your Saturday afternoon – welcoming summer, the opening of the concessions and celebrating Red Hook’s anniversary.

Holden Ringer, 26, left La Push, Washington in January 2023 with a quest to make it to the other Washington, the nation’s capital, on foot. In early March, he accomplished that goal, but his journey isn’t over yet. He plans on putting his feet in the Atlantic by making a stop in Rockaway, on his way to his finishing point in New Haven, CT. Holden is expected to arrive here on Monday, April 29 after stopping in Coney Island this coming weekend. Keep an eye open for a young man with long hair and a red jogging stroller with his belongings. Or simply follow him on Instagram (walkfromwashington) or at walk2washington.com for updates.
