Living Classroom Opportunities for Elementary Schoolchildren
By Lea Kramberg, RISE Youth Programs Coordinator
Teachers, sign up today for Living Classroom! RISE (Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity) offers free programming for pre-K through sixth graders on the Rockaway peninsula each school year. Living Classroom uses the natural shoreline for engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
This fall, RISE is excited to present two programs: “The Living Shoreline,” which explores the ecosystems of coastal communities, and “Birds of the Rockaways,” which is held at the new Arverne East Nature Preserve and focuses on native shorebirds and their vital role in the ecosystem.
Living Classroom is free to all Rockaway public schools in Community District 31, thanks to Joan N. and Norman Bluestone Foundation, NYC Council Members Selvena Brooks-Powers and Joann Ariola (through NYC Department of Cultural Affairs CASA and Cultural Immigrant Initiative), PSEG Long Island, and Port Authority NY NJ.
Spots are filling up quickly, so visit riserockaway.org to learn more and register today!
