Msgr. William F. Burke – Rockaway Council Knights of Columbus #2672 and Sister Columbiettes will hold their 97th Annual Communion Breakfast and Mass on Sunday, April 27. Mass will be celebrated at Saint Rose of Lima Church on Beach 84th Street at 8 a.m. Father James Rodriquez, the Council’s Associate Chaplain and current pastor of Saint Rose of Lima, along with the Council’s Chaplain, Father Bill Sweeney, Pastor of Saint Francis de Sales parish, will co-celebrate.

Following Mass, a buffet breakfast will be served at 9:30 am back at the Council located at 333 Beach 90th Street.

The Council’s Chaplain, Father William Sweeney, along with Grand Knight Owen Loof and Columbiette President Donna Moran, extend an invitation to all to attend this year’s celebration and keep the tradition going!

Each year the Knights publicly honor a local organization for their contributions to our community. This year’s Community Service Award will be presented to the Columbiettes. The Rockaway Council Columbiettes were founded on August 15, 1959, and is one of the oldest chapters in the order.

Keeping with tradition, the Knights and Columbiettes will also present awards to the following members for their loyal and dedicated service to the Church, Community and Council: Knight of the Year to Chuck D’Agostino, 2672 Club Award to Sean McClernon, Lifetime Recognition Award to James Hurley and Lynda Collins as Columbiette of the Year.

The Rockaway Council Knights of Columbus was founded in 1928 and has been serving the Rockaway community since its inception. With 650 members, the council is one of the largest and active councils in the New York area.

The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal service organization in the world. It was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven Connecticut in 1882 to assist widows and children of the immigrant Catholic community. There are over 1.8 million members worldwide.
