Pheffer Amato Declares Victory in Assembly Race
After The Rockaway Times went to press last week, on the evening of November 6, Democratic Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato declared victory in her bid for re-election against challenger Tom Sullivan in Assembly District 23.
As of November 6, Pheffer Amato had 22,416 votes while Sullivan had 21,324. “While more paper ballots may come in over the coming days, Pheffer Amato’s margin makes it clear that she had been re-elected,” a press release from her campaign read.
“First of all, I want to thank the voters of this great district for once more honoring me with their support. I grew up here, I love this community, and I will never stop fighting for us in Albany,” Pheffer Amato said.
“This win is a win for all of us – for the working families; for the cops and firefighters; for the teachers, nurses, trade unionists and city workers; for everyone who stood up to my opponent’s campaign of misinformation and extremism and voted their conscience in this critical election. In spite of it all, we stayed united, and we won!” she said.
Pheffer Amato specifically thanked volunteers from the community, her family, and many friends and supporters from labor, which included endorsements from all city police unions, firefighters, DC37, HTC, TWU, 32BJ, UFT and many others.
“We have an amazing district – we are diverse, we are of all faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds, and we know how to stand together when it’s important and I’m proud to be going back to Albany to keep fighting for the families of this district!” Pheffer Amato stated.
As we go to press, Sullivan has not released a statement since election night.
