Play It Forward Helps All Surf the Waves

Play It Forward Helps All Surf the Waves

By Katie McFadden

Nothing can stop them from riding the waves. On Sunday, July 26, Play it Forward had a record breaking day of more than 700 people participating in their adaptive surf program as riders and volunteers.

The adaptive surf program was held at Beach 69th Street. Riders with disabilities enjoyed a day of learning how to surf with the help of professional surf instructors from local surf schools like Locals and Skudin, the help of adaptive equipment and safety gear donated by Surf For All, and volunteers who helped make it a success. The day also included DJ music, free lunch and refreshments, plus special giveaways.

As Play It Forward’s website mentions, “We empower children, adults, and veterans with disabilities to overcome barriers through adaptive sports. Our programs strive to forge an inclusive world where disabilities do not limit potential by creating a sense of inclusion and personal growth while inspiring self-discovery and community empowerment through transformative experiences.”

Play It Forward will be hosting an adaptive waterskiing event in Broad Channel on August 24. For more info, see: https://wheelingforward.org/playitforward and follow @playitforwardnewyork on Instagram.
