 Poseidon’s Parade This Saturday!

Poseidon’s Parade is celebrating 10 years this Saturday, September 21, so it’s expected to be one of the best yet! This family-friendly nautical art parade kicks off at 1 p.m. from the Beach 106th concession on Saturday.

All are welcome to put their best fins forward and march as an individual, group or even with a float in Saturday’s parade. It costs just $5 to register and can be done online at poseidonsparade.com. For those who just want to take it all in, line the boardwalk from Beach 106th to Beach 97th Street and enjoy the show! The parade will pass a judging stand where Chris “Tio Loco” Saylor, “Mel Jam,” Alice Murphy, and Leigh Anne and Kenneth Kearns will have the tough job of deciding who takes home the coveted Poseidon’s trophies. The categories include: “Best Pet,” “Best Pub/Restaurant,” “Best Adult Group (Kristine Caruso Award),” “Best Bike,” “Best Children’s Group,” “Best Individual (Ms. Columbia Award),” “Best Block,” “Best Float,” “Best Overall,” and “Best Performance.” Jimmy Dowd of St. James Clothing will emcee the event while Bettina Hornung will direct parade traffic on the boardwalk.

The winners will be announced at the Beach 97th concession, where there will be face painters, entertainment and fun for the whole family! There will also be special 10th anniversary tie-dyed t-shirts for sale to help the Rockaway Mermaid Brigade support the parade and keeping it swimming year after year. The weather looks perfect for Saturday. Don’t miss this end of summer bash!
