Rockaway Native Turned NFL Star Gives Back

He may be a football safety in the NFL, but Christian Izien hasn’t forgotten about his hometown. On Saturday, November 23, at the Rockaway YMCA, Tampa Bay Buccaneer and Far Rockaway native Christian Izien and Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers teamed up to provide Thanksgiving food supplies to those in need in the community.

While he couldn’t be there himself during the busy NFL season, Izien donated more than 250 turkeys to be distributed at the YMCA, along with canned and dry goods so people could complete their meals. Council Member Brooks-Powers was on hand to help hand out supplies along with YMCA staff, The Heart of Rockaway Civic Association and other volunteers. As Izien couldn’t be there, the Rockaway YMCA presented his parents with heartfelt thank you cards for the support.
