Santa Sleigh Runs Through the Rock
You know Santa Claus is coming to town when you hear the music coming from the Santa Sleigh. On Saturday, December 17, Make My Mother Proud’s Santa Sleigh Run ran from Far Rockaway to Rockaway Park, bringing Christmas cheer to all in its tenth year.
Starting at the Redfern Houses, to Beach 41st Cornerstone, Ocean Bay Cornerstone, Carleton Manor, the Hammel Houses and Beach 116th Street, it was hard not to notice the festive sleigh featuring everyone from Santa Claus to Mrs. Claus, his elves, Frosty and a DJ playing fun music. At each stop, Santa and his elves handed out toys to every child that came out to visit the Sleigh.
This initiative was originally started by Lakia Echols of Make My Mother Proud, but as she’s currently on a deployment in Kuwait with the U.S. Army, her team made it happen, with Antoneke Weatherspoon carrying on the effort with a sleigh full of volunteers.
