Senator Sanders to Host Earth Day Events
Earth Day is officially on April 22, but this weekend, Senator James Sanders Jr. is hosting some events to get a head start on showing the planet a little love.
Senator Sanders Jr. is hosting two community events on Saturday, April 18, in recognition of Earth Day Weekend. Residents are encouraged to participate in these environmental initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability, community service, and neighborhood beautification.
The first event is a Rockaway Beach Cleanup at Beach 86th Street from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to clean the shoreline. There will be a break at 12 p.m. and a lunch and presentations from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. to help raise awareness about protecting local waterways. This event is in partnership with CISTA 4 Clean Water Inc.
The second event is a compost and tree giveaway from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Battalion Pentecostal Church (454 Beach 67th Street) in Arverne. Residents may receive up to three bags of compost for home gardening and free trees while supplies last. The compost is provided by the NYC Department of Sanitation, and trees are provided by the New York Restoration Project.
Both events are free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend these events as part of Earth Day Weekend activities in Far Rockaway.
