Rockaway was feeling the spirit at The Queens Community Justice Center – The Rockaways’ Spirit Day Event on Beach 17th Street on Friday, July 12.

The forecast was calling for storms and lots of rain, which made an appearance, but as the saying goes, the show must go on. The community enjoyed resources, games, bouncy houses, karaoke, and more. There was a taco truck for the community and ice cream for the kids. A Zumba class was held by Veronica Caicedo, who is a very energetic instructor, who gets the crowd on their feet no matter if she is teaching a crowd in the park or at the Rockaway YMCA. It was a day for the community to come out and interact. The rain attempted to spoil it, but the spirit of the Rockaways would not let a little rain stand in the way. It ended up with the sun shining, and a great community event.

The event was made possible by New Day Treatment Center, Addabbo Family Health, Oak Street Health and NYC Ferry.

The Queens Community Justice Center’s next Spirit Day event will be held at 162-04 Tuskegee Airmen Way in Queens on Friday, July 19 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
