Winter Wander

On Saturday, December 28 at 1 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to wander with a park ranger while it’s a winter wonderland! Explore how plants and animals at the park survive and adapt to the winter. Open to all ages. This is an all-weather walk, so dress for the conditions.

 

Kwanzaa Celebration

On Saturday, December 28 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., head to The B.R.I.D.G.E. FEC (217 Beach 92nd Street) for a Kwanzaa celebration. Enjoy food, music, dancing and the lighting of the kinara. For more info, contact 929-300-5381

 

Beach 116th Menorah Lighting

On Sunday, December 29 at 5 p.m., head to Beach 116th Street for the annual Hanukkah celebration with West End Temple, Temple Beth-El and others. Music, goodies and more.

 

New Year’s Day Walk

On Wednesday, January 1, at 11 a.m., head to The Little Church in Fort Tilden, just inside the Beach 169th entrance, to join the American Littoral Society for a beach walk and a visit to the hawk watch platform on top of Battery Harris east. Followed by a short beach cleanup. Bring your own snacks and water.

 

Polar Plunge!

On Wednesday, January 1 at 12 p.m., head to the beach and ring in the new year with a dip in the chilly Atlantic! Popular plunge locations include Beach 145th, 127th, 119th, 108th, 90th, and more.

 

Irish Music & Dance Event

On Sunday, January 5 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus for an afternoon of Irish culture. Enjoy Irish dance, music and language. Hot buffet brunch Ceili and set dancing, raffles, children’s activities and more. Adult tickets are $30 in advance or $35 after January 1. $15 for kids 14 and under. Cardio Punch

On Saturdays through May 3, at 11 a.m., head to the Far Rockaway Library (1637 Central Ave.) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Bodyweight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 5 p.m., head to The B.R.I.D.G.E. (217 Beach 92nd Street) for a circuit training class that combines bodyweight resistance training and conditioning for a full-body workout. All levels welcome. Bring a mat.  First-come, first-served.

 

Cardio Punch

On Thursdays through May 1, at 6 p.m., head to the Arverne meeting room (312 Beach 54th Street) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Uplifted Dance Fitness

On Mondays and Tuesdays at 11 a.m., head to Redfern Community Center (1544 Hassock Street) for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.

 

Free Winter Semester Classes

Register now for free classes at the Peninsula Adult Leaning Center, Queens Library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) GED Test Prep and Testing Center and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Classes begin January 6. GED TESTING twice monthly – call for more info: 718-945-7058.

 

Poseidon’s Prom

Save the date and grab your date! Poseidon’s Prom is Saturday, February 1, at Connolly’s Bar (155 Beach 95th Street). Wear your best nautical prom look, enjoy art and music, raffles and more. $20 entrance at the door. Proceeds benefit Poseidon’s Parade in September.
