St. Rose Carnival

From July 24-28, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., head to St. Rose of Lima (130 Beach 84th) for their fundraising carnival. Enjoy food, games, rides, prizes. Cash only.

 

Jamaica Bay Book Club

On Friday, July 25 at 2 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for book club! Read selections of nature-themed literature, and together think critically about nature literature. Beachcombing With a Ranger

On Saturday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m., head to Bay 9 in Riis Park to take a walk on the beach with a Ranger and explore what the shore has to offer!

 

Birding Atop Fort Tilden

On Saturday, July 26 at 2:30 p.m., head to the observation deck of Battery Harris East in Fort Tilden and join field guides for the chance to see birds of all kinds. Binoculars and a scope will be provided. Cancelled if raining.

 

Afro-Diasporic Ocean Festival

On Saturday, July 26 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to the Beach 94th Amphitheater for a day filled with music, dance, food, and celebration of African, Latin and Carribbean cultures.

 

Fort and Dunes Hike

On Saturday, July 27 at 10 a.m., head to the Chapel (1 Murray Rd.) in Fort Tilden to join a park ranger on a guided nature walk on trails and learn about the history. Includes walking 2 miles on uneven terrain.

 

Movies Under the Stars: Mufasa

On Sunday, July 27 at 9 p.m., head to the Beach 94th Amphitheater for a screening of Family-friendly film “Mufasa.” Bring a blanket.

 

Rockaway Refresh at B. 86th

On Monday, July 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to Beach 106th and the boardwalk for a shoreline cleanup with JBRPC after the busy weekend.

 

Kids’ Art Workshops

On Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29, head to Beach 120th and the boardwalk for kids’ art workshops with Focuses Creations. Ages 5-8 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. will work on guided painting and clay creations. Ages 9-12 from 5 p.m.  to 6:30 p.m. will work on guided painting and jewelry making. Donation based.

 

100th Precinct Community Council

On Wednesday, July 30 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly 100th Precinct Community Council meeting.

 

Water Rescue Demo Day

On Thursday, July 31 at 2 p.m., head to Beach 65th Street to join Rising Tide to witness a live water rescue demonstration by FDNY, NYPD and lifeguards. Learn water safety skills and discover first responder careers.

 

Birding for Beginners

On Sundays through August 31 at 2 p.m. head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a ranger to take a nature walk, and learn the basics of bird identification. Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended, binoculars available.

 

Yoga on the Beach

On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8:30 a.m., head to Beach 102nd Street for beach yoga with Soupy. For info, call 347-804-2559.

 

Uplifted Dance Class

On Mondays and Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m., head to the Beach 32nd Street Football Field near the boardwalk, for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.

 

Free Art Classes

On Mondays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to 205 Beach 96th Street to enjoy free mixed media art classes in conjunction with Ordervision, NYFA and others.

 

Zumba Under the Stars

On Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. through Aug. 28, head to the Beach 108th Hockey Rink to join Lisa G for this free high-energy dance workout class.
