Riis Landing Kayaking for Beginners
On Saturday, August 30 at 1 p.m., head to Riis Landing for kayaking for beginners. Open to ages 6 and up with an adult. No reservation required. Dress to get wet and bring water. Kayaks, paddles, lifejackets and instruction provided.
Catch the Buzz About Bees
On Sunday, August 31 at 10:30 a.m., head to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a Park Ranger to learn all about NY’s native bees and what we can do to help them. This program involves a woodworking demonstration where you’ll learn how to make a bee hotel.
Fall Migration Bird Walk
On Monday, September 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a ranger for a Fall Migration Bird Walk. Sunscreen recommended, binoculars available.
Broad Channel Mardi Gras Parade
On Monday, September 1 at 12:30 p.m., participants will start lining up at Ruffle Bar (919 Cross Bay Blvd.) for the Labor Day parade down Cross Bay. If participating, register floats at 11 a.m. at Ruffle Bar. After party at the BCAC.
RBAF Back to School Social
On Tuesday, September 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to Callies (421 Beach 129th Street) to join Rockaway Beach Autism Families for a backpack giveaway with sensory items, a performance by the Rock-a-wades, games and more!
Rockaway Point Excursion
On Thursday, September 4 at 10 a.m., head to Riis Landing to join a 6-mile kayaking to Rockway Point and back. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles and instruction provided. RAA’s Portal Exhibit
On Saturdays and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., head to the sTudio 7 Gallery in Fort Tilden for the Rockaway Artist Alliance’s latest exhibit in conjunction with 4head’s Portal: Art With Sand In Its Teeth. Enjoy the work in various mediums from 36 artists. Exhibit will be open through September 21.
Rockaway Refresh at B. 105th & 86th
On Tuesday, September 2 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to Beach 105th or Beach 86th boardwalk for a shoreline cleanup with JBRPC. Sign a waiver prior to joining at www.jbrpc.org/events
Birding for Beginners
On Sundays through August 31 at 2 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a ranger to take a nature walk, and learn the basics of bird identification. Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended, binoculars available.
Yoga on the Beach

Free Art Classes
On Mondays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to 205 Beach 96th Street to enjoy free mixed media art classes in conjunction with Ordervision, NYFA and others.
Uplifted Dance Class
On Mondays and Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m., head to the Beach 32nd Street Football Field (Beach 32nd and the boardwalk) for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.
Zumba Under the Stars
On Thursday, August 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Beach 108th Hockey Rink, join Lisa G for this free high-energy dance workout class through Aug. 28.
