Welcome Summer & Upcoming Holidays
By Robin Shapiro
I’d like to welcome our few returning “snowbirds” back from their winter hiatus. Welcome also to the families who join us just for the summer – including seasonal rentals. I’m blessed with great neighbors whom I especially appreciate during the summer. My neighbors live by the Golden Rule – we help each other with parking, watch each other’s homes while on vacation, etc.
Some friends on other blocks are not so lucky. They need to remind their neighbors that NYC allows construction work only between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekends. However, under certain conditions, the City does issue special permits for before/after-hours work. Workers sometimes need to be reminded to be careful with nails, which tend to end up in everyone’s tires. Horn blowing and inappropriate usage of noisy electric vehicles is another issue. Some people forget that car noises can be an annoyance to their neighbors.
The Jewish holiday of Shavuot ends tonight. Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16 – real estate tends to slow up. The Federal holiday of Juneteenth is Wednesday, June 19. Federal offices are closed. Stock and bond markets are closed. The Federal Reserve is closed, thus most banks will be closed. Call me. Love, Robin.
