3 On 3 By the Sea Coming Up
The 10th Annual Clare Droesch 3 on 3 by the Sea will be on Friday, August 25 at St. Francis de Sales. This Summer highlight was started by Rockaway hoops legend Clare Droesch and Brian Bagley, and has continued in her name since she succumbed to cancer after a courageous battle. Clare was a three-time New York State Player of the Year and All-American in high school, and All Big East in college. She played professionally in Europe before turning to coaching at Vanderbilt, St. John’s, Scholars’ Academy, St. Edmund Prep, and finally at her alma mater, Christ the King.
The event includes divisions ranging from incoming third graders to Men’s and Women’s Open divisions. DJ Poppa D provides the soundtrack as the games progress on the courts, and you can also support through the purchase of merchandise and 50/50 raffles. All proceeds go to the Clare Droesch Foundation, administered by The Graybeards, and supports scholarships at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy, Christ the King High School, and Boston College, as well as local families in need. Final player registration will be this Saturday, August 19 from 11 to 1 p.m., Sunday, August 20 from 10 to 12 p.m., and Monday, August 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales.
