RAA Presents Portal: Rockaways on Aug. 23

A new Portal is opening at Rockaway Artists Alliance’s sTudio 7 Gallery in Fort Tilden this weekend. Portal: Rockaway presents “Art with Sand In Its Teeth,” opening Saturday, August 23, and running through September 21.

Last year, 4heads brought Portal from Governor’s Island to Rockaway, with its first RAA exhibit in September. RAA invited them back again this year and 4heads put out an open call for artists in May. That resulted in 36 artists being selected to display everything from indoor and outdoor sculpture to paintings, interactive projections and more, with many abstract, eye-catching pieces, as these artists don’t ask for permission.

The exhibit opens Saturday with a reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring live performances, beer, a chance to see the work for the first time and an opportunity to meet with some of the artists behind it. If you can’t make the reception, the exhibit will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., through September 21.
