Play It Forward & Anabas Team Up for Adaptive Water Skiing

They may be on wheels, but it doesn’t stop them from getting on the water. “The best feeling in the world,” a participant shouted after getting to try adaptive water skiing on Sunday, August 24. Thanks to some incredible volunteers, dozens of people with disabilities were able to experience water skiing through Play It Forward.
From Sunday morning to afternoon, participants wheeled in to the Anabas Boat Club in Broad Channel to use as the home base for a day of fun on Jamaica Bay. Play It Forward teamed up with the Anabas and Leaps of Faith Adaptive Skiers to make the day possible. Volunteers provided boats and jet skis for the day, while others helped participants in and out of adaptive water skiing chairs, that were pulled behind boats around the bay, as volunteers on jet skis followed behind.
This was the second Play It Forward adaptive event in the area this summer. On July 26, the organization hosted more than 700 participants and volunteers for an adaptive surf program on Beach 69th Street.
