Stargazing with Amateur Astronomers Association

On Friday, September 26 at 7:15 p.m., head to Floyd Bennett Field for free monthly observing sessions. Cancelled if raining or overcast.

 

Half Marathon & 5K

On Saturday, September 27, Rockaway Track Club hosts its Run Rockaway half marathon and 5K run at the Beach 94th Amphitheater. Check in and day of registration at 7 a.m. Both runs start on the boardwalk at 8 a.m. Pre-register at www.Rockawaytc.org

 

Daffodil Bulbs Giveaway

On Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a distribution for New Yorkers for Parks 2025 Daffodil Project. Bulbs already have been reserved, but leftover bulbs will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis in the last half hour.

 

Hawk Watch

On Saturday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m., head to the overlook above Battery Harris at Fort Tilden to join a park ranger for the chance to see birds of prey like osprey, peregrine falcons, bald eagles and more as they fly overhead during peak fall bird migration. Learn to identify them by silhouette and at rest.

 

Poseidon’s Parade

On Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m., head to the Beach 106th concession to check in if marching in Rockaway’s nautical art parade, Poseidon’s Parade. If watching, line to boardwalk from Beach 106th to Beach 95th Street. The awards ceremony will be at the Beach 94th Street Amphitheater.

 

Fort and Dunes Hike

On Saturday, September 27 at 2 p.m., head to the Chapel (1 Murray Rd.) in Fort Tilden to join a park ranger on a guided nature walk on trails and learn about the history. Includes walking 2 miles on uneven terrain.

 

Fall Migration Bird Walk

On Sunday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free birding tour with NYC Plover Project. Limited binoculars provided.

 

Fall Foliage Walk

On Sunday, September 28 at 10:30 a.m., head to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a park ranger to learn why plants like roses, cacti, and poison ivy change in the fall, how they prepare for the winter ahead, and what their new red, orange, or yellow colors tell us. Dress for the conditions.

 

Birding for Beginners

On Saturdays through September 27 at 2 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a ranger to take a nature walk, and learn the basics of bird identification. Binoculars available.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Beach 60th and the boardwalk to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch, hook, and kick to motivating, high-energy music that progress into heart-pumping combinations.

 

Yoga on the Beach

On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8:30 a.m., head to Beach 102nd Street for yoga on the beach with Soupy. For info, call 347-804-2559.

 

Sea Chapel

On Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to see work by artist Susannah Ray. The multipanel installation of abstract ocean views was created from Rockaway Beach images from her larger body of work To the Sea, To the Sea, To the Sea.

 

Free Art Classes

On Mondays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to 205 Beach 96th Street to enjoy free mixed media art classes in conjunction with Ordervision, NYFA and others.

 

Uplifted Dance Class

On Mondays and Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m., head to the Beach 32nd Street Football Field (Beach 32nd and the boardwalk) for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.
