Arts & Crafts

On Saturday, December 20 at 12 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to learn about this season and create and decorate your snowflakes! A short walk with a park ranger will follow after the craft, weather depending. All ages welcome.

 

Santa Sleigh Run

On Saturday, December 20 at 11 a.m., the Santa Sleigh Run comes through town. Santa and his helpers will be making stops, giving out toys and treats. Redfern – 11 a.m., Rockaway Village – 11:45 a.m., Beach 41st – 12:30 p.m., Beach 56th – 1:30 p.m., 71-15 Beach Channel Drive – 2:30 p.m., Hammels – 3:30 p.m., Beach 116th – 4:30 p.m.

 

Festive Frames

On Saturday, December 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to Oceanbay Cornerstone (57-10 Beach Channel Drive) for Far Rock Greek Council’s Festive Frames event. Enjoy toy giveaways, family photos, refreshments, activities, DJ music, and more.

 

Nurture U Holiday Party

On Saturday, December 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to Nurture U Wellness (120-20 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a holiday party to meet the beauty dealers, learn about new services and enjoy a toast. RSVP to: Info@nurtureuwellness.com

 

Movie With Santa

On Saturday, December 20 at 4:30 p.m., head to the gym at St. Camillus (180 Beach 100th Street) to join Rockaway Kiwanis and the 100th Precinct Community Council for their Movie with Santa. Watch Home Alone, take photos with Santa and enjoy food and a gift. Children must be accompanied with an adult.

 

Locals Helping Locals

Toy Giveaway

On Sunday, December 21 at 1 p.m., head to Grindtime Skate Shop (90-20 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for Locals Helping Locals’ toy giveaway. Get a toy, photos with Santa, treats, arts and crafts and more. Child must be present to receive a toy. Donations can be made at Grindtime or Reid’s Hair Studio on Beach 116th before Sunday.

 

Winter Solstice Sunset Walk

On Sunday, December 21 at 3:30 p.m., head to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a sunset walk to celebrate the changing of the season. Reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead. This is an all-weather event, so please dress for the conditions.

 

Rogers Toy Drive

With Gerald Bair

On Sunday, December 21 at 4 p.m., head to Rogers (205 Beach 116th Street) to enjoy music by Gerald Bair and Friends, and bring an unwrapped toy to donate to kids in need through Little Angels and The Graybeards.

 

Stargazing With Amateur Astronomers Association

On Friday, December 26 at 5 p.m., head to the community garden at Floyd Bennett Field to join the Astronomers Association for viewing of the night sky. Cancelled if overcast or raining/snowing.

 

Kwanzaa Celebration

On Saturday, December 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., head to The Bay School (420 Beach 51st Street) for a cultural Kwanzaa celebration with Rockaway Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Must register at: https://communityunityculturalcel.rsvpify.com

 

Irish Music & Dance Event

On Sunday, January 4 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eirann’s Irish culture event.
