Access to Capital Event Supports Small Business Owners

On Saturday, January 10, small business owners and entrepreneurs who hope to open a business got some invaluable information at CA$H DA$H ON THE ROCK’s Access to Capital+ event in downtown Far Rockaway.

Gail Johnson of CA$H DA$H ON THE ROCK’s hosted the event as Peninsula Preparatory Academy. The entrance through the parish parking lot of St. Mary Star of the Sea allowed easy access and free parking for both presenters and attendees who came to explore mutually beneficial investment opportunities.

The event provided an opportunity for brick-and-mortar small business owners, and micro, pre and start up entrepreneurs to meet with lenders such as banks, micro lenders, alternative funders plus attorneys, CPAs, marketing professionals, tax advisors and insurance specialists who were on site to guide interested parties through accessing capital and managing certain financial aspects of a business.

Among some of those resources was attorney Thomas Farrell,Esq., Marketing expert Toni Coleman Brown who even offered advice to soon-to-be Ben & Jerry’s franchise owners, Sarafina Davis of Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, Shana Heath of The Tax Shop, Rockaway Development & Revitalization, (RDRC) CEO Kevin Alexander and many more.  Mike Scala and Pesach Osina, both running as Democrats for Assembly District 23, also stopped by the event to meet attendees. Activist Ozzie Edwards generously provided a continental breakfast for the attendees.

According to Johnson, one of the big takeaways from the event was information on the investment trends that affect small businesses in our community, and how changing strategies can mean better access to capital, no matter the location of their business.

“Thank you again to all who presented, participated, and supported this important conversation for our community,” Johnson said.
