Captain Singh Officially Named 100th Precinct Commanding Officer
By Katie McFadden
The 100th Precinct officially has a new Commanding Officer—Captain Sachi Singh.
On Wednesday, January 21, the 100th Precinct announced that Singh is the new head of the precinct. “I am honored to serve as the new Commanding Officer of the 100th Precinct and look forward to building strong relationships with the Rockaway peninsula community and our team to effectively address your concerns,” Singh shared on the 100th Precinct’s social media pages.
Since Deputy Inspector Carol Hamilton moved on to the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau on December 1, Singh, an executive officer at the 101st Precinct, stepped into the role as acting commanding officer for the 100th Precinct until a new commanding officer was selected.
Sixteen candidates applied for the job and it was narrowed down to Singh and Capt. Larry Meyers, an executive officer for the Transportation Bureau. The 100th Precinct Community Council and other community leaders were given an opportunity to meet with both on January 6, ask questions and vote on their choice. After seeing Singh in action at the 100th Precinct for the last several weeks, Singh won the community vote and the final decision was left to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who ultimately decided Singh would be the official commanding officer for the 100th Precinct.
Captain Singh is a more than 15-year veteran of the NYPD. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from CUNY John Jay College in International Relations and Affairs before earning a master’s degree in data science at Syracuse University. He is also a proud father of three girls.
Singh joined the NYPD in July 2010, starting at the 79th Precinct in Brooklyn. He worked as a foot post officer for three years before transferring to the 7th Precinct in lower Manhattan, where he served as a patrol officer for two years. After a promotion to sergeant in 2015, he was assigned to the 67th Precinct in Brooklyn for eight years, where he worked patrol and then as part of the Domestic Violence unit, then the Field Training Unit and then as administrative sergeant.
Singh continued to rise in the ranks and was promoted to lieutenant in 2022 and assigned to the 104th Precinct in Ridgewood. He worked patrol for the evening tour for two years before being promoted again to captain in June 2024. He was assigned to the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica for a brief time before being assigned as executive officer of the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway. And now he continues as commanding officer of the 100th Precinct.
In response to the announcement, District 32 Councilwoman Joann Ariola said, “Congratulations to the new Commanding Officer of the 100th Precinct, Captain Singh. We look forward to working with you to protect Broad Channel and Rockaway! Stay safe and welcome to D32!”
Captain Singh will be hard at work continuing to become familiar with the 100th Precinct over the next few weeks. He has been invited to a Belle Harbor Property Owners Association town hall on Wednesday, February 11 at P.S. 114. Other civic associations under the 100th Precinct have been invited to join and the meeting will be open to the public.
Congratulations, Captain Singh!
