The St. Camillus/St. Virgilius basketball program is underway with about 150 local kids from 4th grade to 8th grade, playing in the Girls and Boys leagues. Here are some standout players this week.
Nora Rivera
Girls League
Nora was not only the MVP this week, but she is also the most improved player in the league. Through hard work, she has become an outstanding player. She was always one of the top rebounders, but she’s added so much more to her game. She’s become a major scoring threat as well. This week she used her inside scoring and her new mid-range shooting skills to drop in 14 points and lead her team to a solid victory.
Hunter Long
Junior Boys League

Hunter is a very smooth operator. He has every skill a star player needs. He seems to be everywhere on defense; he handles the ball with ease, and he can score from anywhere on the court. The thing about Hunter is how he makes it all look so easy. He slides past his defenders like they’re standing still. This week he scored a game high 24 points to lead his team to a runaway win.
Anthony Estrema
Senior Boys League

Anthony was simply on fire this week. He nailed an incredible six 3’s…in the first quarter. That was definitely a first for this league. Then he dropped in three more before the final whistle. Anthony is a player who never lets up. It doesn’t matter if it’s offense or defense, he battles every minute he is on the court. He ended up with an amazing 39 points which was way too much for the opposing team to overcome.
