Dear Editor:

My name is Alex Litvak. I’m a Rockaway Beach resident. On Wednesday February 11, U.S. House of Representatives approved “SAVE America Act.” It demands everyone provide the proper identification to vote. It means to avoid any unauthorized participation at the election process. There is unofficial information that the same people are voting at several election districts or even not being authorized to vote at all. If you don’t need to prove your identity, such behavior is very possible. We have to protect our democracy and our Constitution and block even a hint of wrong election. It is why the above said SAVE America Act, just approved by the U.S. House of Representatives, is so important. Our Representative Gregory Meeks voted against this legislation, showing his disinterest in having an honest election. This brings us to question if we elected the right person to represent us in Congress.

Now, this legislation moved to U.S. Senate. I personally sent letters to our U.S. Senators Kirsten E. Gillibrand and Charles E. Schumer urging them to support the above mentioned legislation and honest elections in the United States of America. Everyone in Rockaway can do the same if we intend to keep our American democracy. Doing nothing and sitting idly means losing. Any conversation in the kitchen or at the bar leads nowhere. Do something or you’re going to lose.
